"The Iron Jacket is a short graphic novel that reimagines the traditional superhero journey by blending cutting-edge design with a narrative rooted in technology and self-discovery. The story follows a Georgia Tech student who creates an Iron Man suit from the Marvel comics and goes on an unexpected adventure. The graphic style takes a bold step from conventional comic book aesthetics, merging halftone patterns that echo the tactile feel of classic print comics while embracing modern digital techniques. The Iron Jacket is not just a comic—it’s an immersive visual experience that pushes the boundaries of graphic storytelling."
The layout of 'The Iron Jacket' defies standard panel structures, using asymmetrical page layouts, immersive full-page spreads, and dynamic overlays that create a sense of movement and fluidity between scenes. The fusion of photography, vibrant colour, and layered textures displays the known landmarks around Tech's campus in an almost dreamlike fashion. The typographic choices complement the visual energy, using a typewriter font and paper overlays to add a traditional feel to the modern style.
This graphic book was created in a digital format for a project where I was tasked with graphically communicating an original short story related to Georgia Tech. The novel was designed to be printed into a 16 page book with full-page colour spreads.
